Animal Husbandry Extramural Studies (AHEMS)
Throughout the summer of 2018, and the school year of 2018/19, I completed 12 weeks of AHEMS. My various placements included a research lab, an equine (horse) stables, and bovine (pig), sheep, cattle (cow) farms. The equine stables was located in Virginia, United States and the cattle placement in Brookmans Park, England. For the bovine and sheep farms I stayed with a family in Baltonsborough and Wales, England respectively.

The research lab was under strict confidentiality laws and I can not disclose information about the placement.

Through the stables and farms I learned appropriate husbandry for animals raised as pets and animals raised for food production. On the equine placement I also learned about the correct way to handle/groom horses and clean/maintain stables and fields. On my bovine, sheep, and cattle farms I learned how to help birth and take care of the young. I also learned, various nutritional diets and reproduction techniques for adults.
All the placements I worked with handled their animals humanly and safely.
